Sagittarius Full Moon Guide
May 31, 2026 | 9° Sagittarius | 4:45 AM ET
As with all full moons, we have two energies at play here, with the Sun in Gemini opposing the Moon in Sagittarius. This lunation asks us to reflect on the difference between knowledge and wisdom. You might be wondering, is there even a difference between wisdom and knowledge? I honestly thought the same thing when I first considered these two words. I had always thought of them basically as synonyms. They're connected, but they're not the same.
Knowledge is the accumulation, acquisition, and communication of information. This is the realm of Gemini (and Virgo, too). Ruled by Mercury, they gather facts and data and analyze. It's the realm of reading and learning and consuming and often sharing the knowledge gained. Sagittarius, on the other hand, ruled by Jupiter, is the wisdom keeper of the cosmos. Where knowledge is the information itself, wisdom is the practical application of the information. Knowledge is knowing what to do. Wisdom is knowing when, how, and why to do it. Knowledge can be taught and often comes from the external world: books, teachers, observation, and so on. Wisdom develops through experience, integration, reflection, and discernment. Experiences and mistakes are a key to wisdom. It's active and requires something of you. It's shaped by your values, your beliefs, your lived experiences. It's finding meaning and purpose.
When we look at this on a more collective level, it feels like this full moon may offer us (yet another) turning point on the trajectory of humanity. We've reached a point in history where we have so much knowledge at our fingertips, but I'm not sure how well we're doing on the wisdom front. This moon is very much asking us some important questions about who we are as human beings and who we want to become. Over the last several years, we've had to face a lot of hard truths about who we are, and now under this fiery moon we're asked what are we gonna do about it. Sagittarius has far-reaching sight. I always think of hawk energy here. There's a shrewdness, a determination, and an incomparable focus even if just for a flash of a moment. So the question becomes what steps do we take now that will have far-reaching and long-term benefits, both personally and collectively. In what ways can we refine and align our approaches.
Because this also happens to be a blue moon, the second full moon in a calendar month, it carries a bit more weight and often signals a threshold moment. A precipice between what was and what will be. As with all full moons, there are invitations for release and realization.
We're asked, how do we balance knowledge and wisdom? How do we develop and access wisdom from the knowledge that we've gathered? Like Temperance (the major arcana card that corresponds to Sagittarius), there's an element of alchemy and transmutation to the energy of this moon. How do we transform and liberate ourselves through the wisdom we've gathered in our experiences? What is true for you now? Because the truth that Sagittarius seeks is always going to be inner work despite its expansive planetary ruler. Truth is something individual, and I'm not sure we can get to a universal truth as a result. And wouldn't it be kind of freeing to know that what you're seeking is simply what is true for you?
With this moon, the adventure Sagittarius so dearly loves exists inside you. Be curious about your beliefs, perspectives, and worldviews.
What's Happening in the Sky
The Sun in Gemini sits directly opposite the Moon in Sagittarius, which is what makes this a full moon, and it's the perfect picture of the knowledge-and-wisdom conversation we're having. One side gathers and names. The other wants to know what it all means.
This is also a blue moon, the second full moon of May, which gives it that extra threshold quality. A line between what was and what's coming.
The Moon is sitting almost exactly on Antares, one of the great fixed stars, known as the heart of the Scorpion. Antares carries a fiery, intense quality, and in the old traditions it's tied to the burning off of old patterns and karma. That amplifies the release this moon is already offering. Saturn is lending a steadying, grounding hand through all of it, a reminder that real wisdom is built slowly, through time and experience. And because Jupiter rules Sagittarius, it rules this moon, and right now Jupiter is strong and generous, which is part of why there's such a thread of luck and good fortune running through this lunation.
Inside Kindred Club, I break the whole chart down piece by piece, including the numerology of the day, which is its own rich layer this time around.
The Tarot Cards
Three cards are sitting with this moon, and together they tell a clear little story.
Temperance (Sagittarius) is wisdom as patience, balance, and the slow alchemy of bringing two things together to make something new. The Wheel of Fortune (Jupiter) is the wheel of life turning, often in your favor, and a reminder of luck and good fortune. And the Eight of Wands is momentum, eight arrows already in the air, the universe clearing the path so you can move quickly toward what you want.
Wisdom, luck, and momentum. Not a bad hand to be holding.
A Ritual for This Moon
Sagittarius rules over the hips, thighs, liver, and sciatic nerve. Since we have a couple of themes of release and clearing, I thought it would be a great moon for a little detox love for our liver and bodies. If you don't have these ingredients, you could also simply enjoy some peppermint tea, steep some lemon and ginger together, or purchase some liver detox tea at the store.
Liver Love
1 part Dandelion root
½ part Burdock root
½ part Red Clover
½ part Hibiscus
½ part Cinnamon
½ part Ginger
Sweeten with honey, sugar, or your preferred choice. This is also really, really good with a splash of pineapple juice to sweeten. Serve hot or iced. All of these can be extracted through cold infusion, which means you can brew it under the full moon to add some lunar energy and magic to support the intention and healing.
Place your herbs in a muslin bag or tea strainer. Run the whole bag under running water to dampen the herbs. Then fill a mason jar (or any clear container with a lid) with water. Place your muslin bag or strainer in the mason jar. If using a muslin bag, pull the strings out and put the lid on so it holds the bag in place. For cold infusions, it's important for the herbs to sit at the top of the water to allow for circulatory displacement, which ensures effective extraction. For hot infusion, simply boil water and steep herbs for 7–10 minutes.
A gentle note: herbs are medicine, and medicine interacts. Before adding anything new, especially if you're pregnant or nursing, taking medications, or managing a health condition, check in with your doctor or a qualified herbalist. Work with what's right for your body.
Where This Moon Lands for You
The same moon asks a different question of each of us, depending on your rising sign. Sagittarius falls in a different area of life, a different house, for every chart, so this lunation might be lighting up your relationships, or your work, or your home, or your sense of who you are. The energy is the same. The room it's shining into is yours alone.
This is where the personal work begins, and it's the part I love most. Inside Kindred Club, I've written a prompt for all twelve rising signs, so you can find exactly where this moon is working in your life and what it's asking of you, along with a tarot spread built for this threshold and journaling prompts to carry you all the way to the Sagittarius New Moon six months from now.
