About this format:
The Herbal Grimoire Circle is intentionally designed as a working session rather than a lecture. For the past 18 months, our monthly Witches Brew gatherings in Durham have created a sacred space for witches, mystics, and curious souls to connect and share their journeys.

February 12th will mark our final in-person Witches Brew gathering in Durham. This transition reflects our commitment to making magical community more accessible to all, regardless of location. Join River Takada of Rivtak and Erin Harker of Magick Makers to create your own charm bag filled with herbs and talismans tailored to your intentions.

River will lead you in the basics of embroidery and hand-sewing techniques, showing you how to stitch your charm bag with care and intention on quality linen. Erin will introduce the folkloric tradition of charm bags, guiding you through herbal and crystal correspondences, and the use of sacred symbols and sigils.

All supplies are provided, and you’ll leave with a finished charm bag pillow uniquely crafted to support your personal goals.

Session 1: Roots of Witchcraft
We start with an exploration of the traditions, beliefs, and practices that form the heart of witchcraft.

• Witchcraft History & Paths: Gain a foundational understanding of the origins and different traditions within witchcraft.

• Ancestral Veneration: Learn respectful ways to honor ancestors and connect with your personal lineage.

• Seasons, Sabbats & Lunar Phases: Discover the rhythms of the natural world, from seasonal shifts to lunar cycles.

• Divination: Begin connecting with your intuition through simple, beginner-friendly techniques.

Session 2: Crafting Magic and Ritual
In our second session, we move into practical magic, from spellcraft to setting up sacred spaces.

• Spell Casting & Rituals: Explore core practices in spellcraft, from working with planetary energies to incorporating herbs.

• Altars & Sacred Spaces: Learn to create personal spaces that nurture your spiritual growth.

• Boundaries & Protection: Build a basic protective practice to safeguard your energy and intentions.

• Group Ritual: Close with a guided, collective spell to amplify your intentions and ground the experience.

During this introductory workshop, you’ll learn everything from how to prepare for a reading to interpreting the meanings of the cards without memorization. You’ll even have time to practice your newly learned skills with one another during our time together.

Erin Harker will share her practical methods for reading the cards to help you build a personal practice based on time-honored traditions.
