Maybe you’ve dabbled in the art of witchcraft. Maybe you’re a dedicated practitioner. Or maybe (and you, my witchy friend, are at my personal favorite part of the ride) are a little craft curious with a healthy dose of skepticism. 

Regardless of where you find yourself on your enchanted journey, one thing is for sure: you believe in magick. You may question it from time to time. But you know it’s there. Waiting to be discovered - within us and around us. 

Just like you, I believe in a world filled with wonder. I believe there’s magick in each of us and everything we do - even our simple, everyday tasks. This space is created to nurture, celebrate, and honor The Magick Makers and the believers among us.

So what exactly is a magick maker?

The idea for The Magick Makers was born from an urge to help support and empower fellow witches and craft-curious folks who are finding and creating magick in this wild world of ours.

The dreamers. The changemakers. The tree huggers. The farmers. The witches. The do-gooders. The creatives. The community builders. The makers. The spiritualists. The believers.

You are the magick makers. We are the magick makers.

This is a space for all of us. A space to learn and strive towards living a seasonal and sustainable life - one baby step at a time. A life that supports one another and our planet with our voices and our dollars. I know our magick is stronger together, and this space exists with the intention of doing just that. Bringing us together to raise each other up. To discover other magick makers and support them. To celebrate and honor the diversity of our traditions.

My Magickal Life

I’ve been dabbling in the craft and magick for as long as I can remember. My momma read our tarot cards as kids. We had “uncles” who owned a crystal shop and witches were close family friends.

I have always been able to connect with the otherworld and spirits which is a talent handed down from my ancestors. I’m constantly learning and developing my craft, and it is at the core of who I am.

My personal interpretation of witchcraft is that it’s exactly that - a craft. I believe that you can practice the craft in a way that works with your personal belief system whatever that may be.

From Bakery to Blog to Witchcraft

Before there was The Magick Makers, there was Makin’ Whoopie Kitchen - a bakery business I opened in 2011. As my little bakery business grew and grew, I started to realize something. I kind of hated production baking. Okay. I really hated it. That is some intense physical work, folks. Bless all the bakers and bakeries out there. You all are some serious badasses.

I also discovered what I loved about running my business. I love entertaining and sharing my food with people. I love crafting stories and creating new recipes. I love connecting with folks. Enter the blog. I was sure it would be the perfect combination of what I loved about Makin’ Whoopie Kitchen the bakery, and what I love about my parallel career in marketing and design.

There was still something missing, though.

My offerings still didn’t feel quite aligned with what I wanted and what I wished existed in the world - more specifically here in Durham, North Carolina. There’s an amazing magickal community around the triangle, and some great witchy shops. The space I’m looking to conjure is different from what I’ve seen in our community or anywhere for that matter. A space that encourages and supplies your magickal practice at home. A space that feels like an enchanted journey every time you enter. A space that brings kindred spirits together as they explore the magick within. A space with curated wonders hand-crafted by yours truly and fellow magick makers.
