Moontails: Aries New Moon Ritual & Recipe

You can be proud that you made it through the long winter, be ready to charge forward, and simultaneously need to allow yourself the time and space to transition to the new season - the new solar year.

While the energy of the new moon is the most potent for the first 48 hours of it being exact, you can work with this energy for one to two weeks. Personally, I don't practice any intentions setting or manifestation until I can see the first sliver of light from the growing moon. The dark moon is best for rest, reflection, and recharging.

There’s a lot of talk around how great the Aries New Moon is for setting intentions. This is just a gentle reminder to pay attention to your own energy levels around this lunation. Aries has a tendency to want to charge forward, do all the things, and can have a tendency to send us careening towards overwhelm and burnout.

I'd also strongly encourage doing some kind of clearing or purification ritual prior to setting intentions. This has been coming through on repeat for me through a host of different channels and messages. For new things to grow, old things must die. Make room for your intentions to grow, and use the release of the old to feed and fertilize what you're planting for your future.

Crystals, Gems, Minerals, & Metals

FIRE QUARTZ: Much like our fiery Aries, the energy of this crystal can feel strong and in your face at first. It contains powerful life force energy that's in perfect alignment with the Cardinal energy of Aries and the beginning of the solar year. This crystal can help with reigniting your inner fire and reclaiming your strength, willpower, and confidence.

SERPENTINE: This powerful crystal is great for all the zodiac signs, but I especially like it for the energy of the Aries New Moon. It helps us burn away the emotions that are no longer beneficial for us to hold (goodbye, Pisces season). This release makes room for us to follow our heart's desires which is very big Aries energy as this archetype especially with the moon's influence is driven by wants and needs. It serves Veruca Salt energy - "I want it now!" Of course, Serpentine helps us connect and ground that energy between our heart and root with a layer of compassion.

IRON: With its association with the planet Mars, the connection to Aries energy is an easy one. This metal is the representation of the warrior archetype and helps us embrace our power and courage as we forge our path ahead. You can work with this metal to increase energy, for protection, beginnings, courage, and to speed up the results of intentions or spellwork.

Plants & Herbs

BLESSED THISTLE: A powerfully protective herb, this is one of the ingredients in my Safe Haven Spiritual Home Blend. It's excellent for banishing, warding, and protection. As far as the physical body is concerned, it helps with purifying the blood (ruled by Aries) and helps to reestablish balance in the body. Like some of the other correspondences listed here, it also helps you reconnect with your inner spark.

NETTLE: There's a common theme with many of these Mars-ruled plants. Many of them a bit of a bite along with their healing properties, and honestly that gives me all the Mars/Aries energy with a little nod to Saturn/Capricorn. Capricorn is exalted in Mars energy, so it makes sense that there's a little undertone to that baneful or maleficent energy. Also known as Stinging Nettle, she's not technically a baneful plant but if you've ever experienced the sting of nettle you know she's not all love and light with her mothering energy. Drying or cooking the plant removes it's needle-like hairs that cause the sting. This plant has been used as food, medicine, and even clothing (thanks to strong fibers) since the Ancient Greeks and Romans were doing their thing. It's cold and damp, so it serves as a nice balance for the Aries energy of this new moon.  The healing benefits for this one are extensive helping with everything from inflammation and arthritis to stimulating circulation. It's also a great source of iron which corresponds to Aries/Mars energy.

WILD TOBACCO: (Bane) This is different from the commercial tobacco used in modern-day cigarettes. This plant requires particular care with use, because the levels of nicotine and alkaloids are quite higher — high levels of nicotine can make you very, very sick or even kill you. Often smoked in ritual and cured by fire, the energy of this plant has strong ties to fire energy and many connect it to Mars.

Natural Signs & Symbols

HAWK: Hawk is the messenger of the Gods and often associated with Mercury, but it also holds potent fire magick - especially the red-tailed and red-shouldered hawks. Hawks invites us to rise to new heights and soar above our competition. When hawk shows up it's usually a good time for visioning your future and setting your sights on new goals and dreams. Be mindful that hawks are often attacked/harassed by smaller birds, so you may experience some haters for lack of a better term as you continue to rise with hawk's medicine. It's good time to put some extra protections in place.

ANEMONE: (Bane) This gorgeous and toxic flower supports courage and creativity. These delicate looking blooms are able to brave the cold winds of early spring and are even said to only bloom with the first winds of spring. As with most poison plants, there's both healing and protection/destruction held with the energy of the plant making it a potent and powerful ally. Also known as Windflower, this flowers energy can help you get out of your head and come back to your body (both have strong connections to Aries energy). It can help you ride the wind currents and movement of Aries season with grounded focus and determination. Place an anemone bloom in a red cloth and tie it up to use as a protection amulet. This is also available as a flower essence in the online shop.
