The Science
Witch hazel has long been used as an astringent (skin shrinker), and is also in the antioxidant and anti-bacterial camp due to the high presence of a variety of tannins and polyphenols, namely gallic acid. (Thring, et al. 2011)
In a 2003 study, Rosa hybrida was found to have both analgesic (pain relieving) and anti-inflammatory properties when treating irritated skin in mice (Choi, et al.)
