Aries New Moon Guide

New Moon in Aries at 27° | April 17, 2026 | 7:52 AM ET

The big news with this lunation is a HUGE stellium. It wouldn't really matter what sign it was happening in — a pile-up of seven planets in one place is significant and a little (okay, maybe a lottle) chaotic. We've got a pressure cooker. An Instant Pot, if you will. All that steam and energy building up, and ooooooo baby does it ever need a release valve.

That buildup is going to release one way or another. The hope is that we find a productive way to channel all that energy, recognizing there will likely be frustration, healing-through-tension, even aggression along the way. But it will also show up as self-awareness, creative fire, fresh insights, and new ways of seeing the world around you.

On the global stage, I'm looking forward to some vigilante action — something the third decan of Aries is known for, thanks to its association with Sagittarius by way of Jupiter. In the Chaldean tradition, that third decan is associated with Venus, and on a personal level I'm a big fan of the softening we get there. It reminds us to channel our fiery, passionate energy productively — not conflict for the sake of conflict. There's a gentle reminder here to think before you speak and consider how your actions might land before you go off half-cocked. Yes, it can bring butting heads. But it's also playful.

What do you want to fall back in love with? What lights your fire?

Aries is all about you. The self. Our passions, our motivations, what drives us. And sure, our anger too — but I think our anger and rage offer so much wisdom and guidance about what actually matters to us. This new moon is asking you to get crystal clear on what matters.

We have the first-spark energy of Aries here, but we're also closing out Aries season with this new moon. With Saturn cozying up to the lunation, there are big questions about how you keep that spark alive. Are you willing to commit for the long haul to those desires, dreams, passions? Because Saturn wants your commitment, your devotion. Long-term success. Conflict and challenge as opportunities to make sure you actually want what you think you want. Do you have the resilience to stick with it? Are you willing to do what needs to be done?

Saturn and Aries (Mars) both want action. They just go about it in slightly different ways. And while they're considered at odds, there's real nuance here — in a way, they support each other. That Saturn in Aries energy is asking us to tend our fires. Not to let them go out.

The Mars Story

Mars is home in Aries — yang, masculine, fire — and everything it's touching right now adds a layer to the action you're being called toward. He isn't acting alone. It's carrying the influence of several other planets as it moves through this lunation, and each one shapes the kind of action that's available to you.

Neptune softens Mars's heat and dissolves old illusions, so the fire you're feeling isn't purely aggressive. There's a dreaminess, a spiritual quality, a sense that the action you're being called to is connected to something larger than just you. Some of what you thought was solid may be dissolving. That's part of the work.

Mercury brings words and communication into the mix. Useful, except Mars can sharpen our words into something closer to weapons. Sharp tongues are a little too ready. Things will get said in the heat of the moment — by you, by others. Try not to take it personally right now. (Easier said than done, I know.)

Saturn is the one asking the hard questions. Saturn is uncomfortable with Aries's youthful, move-fast-and-figure-it-out-later energy. Saturn wants to know the long-term plan. Mars is out here seeking forgiveness rather than permission. There's tension there but also the possibility of real commitment to whatever you're starting.

Chiron in Aries

We had a Chiron cazimi on Thursday, April 16, so while Chiron is beginning to move away from the sun and moon, it's still very close and a major theme of this lunation. Chiron is the wounded healer — it helps us find ways to heal through the wounds we carry. In Aries, we see the need for agency and an opportunity to do some deep, deep healing around identity, self-worth, the fear of expressing what we want and putting ourselves out there.

These may be old wounds bubbling up. Chiron in Aries wants us to heal the stories around our power and our powerlessness — the moments and narratives that make you feel unable to speak up for yourself, choose yourself, act on what's best for you. I don't think being selfish is always a bad thing, and neither does Chiron in Aries.

Numerology Highlights

The day's big essence is 22/4 — The Fool in tarot. It allows us to see the beauty in all people. It's a very lovable energy. Innovative and creative — another gift of Aries. When you can get yourself into alignment and flow with the day's energies, you'll find yourself in this territory: the ability to bring intentions and ideas into reality. The kind of energy we love alongside a new moon. Fresh starts. The faith to take the leap. To think about where you're headed in new and affirming ways.

Tarot: The Emperor + Four of Wands

The Emperor makes obvious sense here — Aries's card. Structure, authority, the willingness to take up space and make decisions. Saturn flavored. The Emperor isn't asking you to dominate anything; he's asking whether you're willing to be the one in charge of your own life.

But it's the 4 of Wands alongside him that I find interesting — because on the surface, it doesn't fit the intensity of this lunation at all. The 4 of Wands is celebration, homecoming, arrival. Stability after effort. A threshold crossed. It's also the card of the third decan of Aries, which is where this new moon is landing — traditionally ruled by Venus in the Chaldean system, and Jupiter in modern astrology. So we get both that Venusian softening and Jupiter's expansiveness mixed into all this fire.

And yet. Maybe that's exactly the point. With all this Aries fire, all this Saturn weight, all this Chiron tenderness — the 4 of Wands is reminding you that the whole point of the work is to build something worth coming home to. The fire is for something. The structure is for something. The healing is for something.

It's also the card of ritual thresholds, and that feels right for a new moon at the close of Aries season. You're standing at a doorway. The work ahead is real. But you're not walking toward punishment — you're walking toward a version of your life that has room for celebration.
