Moontails: Capricorn New Moon Ritual + Recipe
Every moon has its story to tell, and here at The Magick Makers we like to explore the new and full moons through both recipe and ritual in our bi-weekly Moontails.
On December 23, 2022 the new moon in Capricorn will be exact at 5:16 AM.
If you’ve been around for a bit, you’ll know that I recommend doing your new moon rituals after the time it goes exact. Especially when we’re talking about setting intentions and manifesting, we want to do so when the moon has a little light to shimmer on our intentions so that they can grow together.
Dark moons are another separate phase with their equally important part of the cycle which are best for reflection and rest. We manifest with a growing moon and we release with a waining moon. The dark moon is the pause in between the two. You’ll notice many folks who are new to working with the moon suggest manifestation for full moons. However, traditionally that phase is best for releasing and the culmination of previous manifestations.
I digress.
Back to our impending, new moon in Capricorn.
As you set your intentions around the energy of this growing moon in Capricorn, I’d invite you to look at your goals from a forest perspective as opposed to the individual trees that create your future. Ruled by Saturn, there’s a heavy emphasis on boundaries and resourcefulness, but there’s also the beautiful energy of Jupiter (expansion) in Aries (passion) giving additional flavor to this lunar transit. The idea here is to give yourself room to grow into your intentions and trust that the universe will provide the necessary bumpers to keep you on track. With the influence of Jupiter in Aries, you shouldn’t have any issues with decisive and confident movements towards your goals.
While it’s easy to see boundaries as restrictive, they can actually open up a sense of focus towards our goals and ultimately invite in a different kind of creativity and expansion. How can you work with the resources you currently have to build your dreams? Where are you limiting yourself, because you think you don’t have what you need? And how can you work within your current constraints to achieve your desired result?
Capricorn also has a depth of feeling and intuition that is oft overlooked, but make no mistake. That mermaid tail is there for a reason.
We may not share every feeling with just anyone on the street, but we’re big old mushy softies at our core. We may not ever let you see it, but it’s there. Pay attention to those niggling feelings that arise around this new moon, because I have no doubt that there will be some hidden messages held within. Possibly even a gift of sight as to what’s to come of your dreams.
IMHO, Capricorn and Saturn are some of the most underrated and misunderstood energies in astrology. I am, however, completely biased with a Saturn heavy natal chart and Sun in Capricorn, but it doesn’t make it any less true. When we look at The Devil in tarot, which corresponds to Capricorn and Saturn, it’s a much deeper card than just the idea of addictions or being shackled.
There’s an undercurrent of empowerment held in this archetype, because the chains are loose and we can always break free. There’s a strong message of busting through any perceived limitations with this new moon, which is why I’d recommend setting your sights a bit higher than normal to grow into the possibilities available to you. The Devil also reminds us to laugh at our foibles and find the humor as we stumble along our path - extremely important in our dealings with Saturn. Life ain’t easy, but that doesn’t mean we can’t find the humor in our missteps along the way.
The moon won’t enter Aquarius until 2:13 AM ET in the wee hours of Christmas morning, but it will be void of course beginning at 10:11 PM ET on 12/24. Work with the energy of the new moon anytime before it goes void of course which gives you a bit of wiggle room amidst the prep for the holidaze.
We’re leaning into the holiday season for this round of Moontails.
Inside your free Moontails Download, you’ll find a recipe for mulled wine or cider with a little extra Capricorn health boost, a simmer pot ritual, tarot spread, and journal prompts to help you work with this lunation’s energies.
